How to Perform a Reach Truck Pre-Start Inspection
Step-by-step guidance for a structured reach truck pre-start inspection and safe defect reporting.
Step 1: identify the truck
Confirm the asset number, inspection status and any outstanding defect notices. Review the previous-shift handover.
Step 2: walk around
Inspect forks, mast, carriage, reach mechanism, hoses, wheels, battery, connectors, guards and the surrounding floor. Look for impact marks, leaks and loose components.
Step 3: operator compartment
Check access steps, handholds, seat, restraint, mirrors or cameras, controls, labels and emergency disconnect.
Step 4: power and functional test
Start according to procedure and note warning indicators. Test steering, brakes, horn, lights and hydraulic functions at low speed in a clear area.
Step 5: record and escalate
