What PPE Is Required for Reach Truck Operation?
Understand how safety footwear, high-visibility clothing, restraints and task-specific PPE support reach truck safety without replacing engineering controls.
Safety footwear
Safety footwear helps protect against dropped objects, pallet contact and foot injuries during warehouse tasks. The selected footwear should suit floor grip, electrical or chemical hazards and site requirements.
High-visibility clothing
High-visibility garments can improve detection in mixed traffic, but their effectiveness depends on lighting, background and cleanliness. They must not be treated as a substitute for barriers or controlled crossings.
Operator restraint
Seat belts, gates, doors and presence systems are part of the truck’s protective design. Operators should use them in accordance with manufacturer instructions and never bypass an interlock.
Task-specific protection
Battery work, cold-store operation, handling hazardous goods and maintenance may require gloves, eye protection, face protection, thermal clothing or other PPE. Selection must follow the risk assessment and safety data.
PPE management
Provide correct sizing, training, cleaning, inspection and replacement. Damaged PPE should be removed from service.
