Reach Truck Parking Rules
Safe reach truck parking guidance covering fork position, controls, brake, key control, gradients, emergency routes and charging.
Choose the location
Use designated bays on a suitable level surface. Avoid blind corners, aisle ends, rack access, dock edges, slopes and areas where the truck may be struck.
Secure the truck
Retract and lower the load-handling system, neutralise controls, apply the parking brake, switch off and remove or secure the key/access device.
Fork hazard
Forks should be fully lowered so they do not create a trip or impalement hazard. Position them within the bay and away from pedestrian paths.
Temporary stops
Even brief unattended stops can allow movement or unauthorised use. Follow the same secure-parking principles unless an approved procedure defines otherwise.
Charging parking
Charging bays require additional cable, ventilation, ignition and emergency controls based on battery technology.

Can a truck be parked with a raised pallet?
No, except under a specifically controlled maintenance or emergency procedure. Loads should be lowered safely.
Is leaving the key in acceptable during breaks?
Key or access control should prevent unauthorised operation.
Can it be parked on a slope?
Avoid slopes. Where unavoidable and manufacturer-approved, apply the site’s additional controls.
