Reach Truck Maintenance Guide for Safe Warehouse Operations

Operator checks versus maintenance
Operators identify visible or functional defects before use. They should not perform technical repairs unless trained and authorised. Planned maintenance includes inspection, adjustment, lubrication, testing and replacement by competent personnel.
Usage-based scheduling
Hours, shifts, load cycles, environment, cold-store use, dust and floor condition can affect maintenance needs. Calendar-only scheduling may be insufficient for heavily used trucks.
Safety-critical components
Forks, mast chains, rollers, brakes, steering, wheels, hydraulic systems, reach mechanism, restraints, warning devices and battery systems require particular attention.
Defect tagging and isolation
Use clear out-of-service controls and prevent access until the defect is resolved. A paper note on the steering wheel is not reliable if keys remain available.
Return to service
After repair, verify that guards and interlocks are restored, tools are removed, faults are cleared appropriately and functional tests are completed. Record the work and release by an authorised person.
